During a state visit to Awka on Thursday, President Bola Tinubu pledged to tackle critical developmental challenges affecting Anambra State and the broader South-East region. Among the pressing concerns highlighted were severe erosion threats, the region’s underutilized natural gas reserves, and Anambra’s exclusion from the National Rail Master Plan.
Speaking at a civic reception held at Alex Ekwueme Square, President Tinubu reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to advancing key infrastructure projects—particularly road upgrades—and promoting greater national cohesion through inclusive and equitable development initiatives.
Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, revealed details of the engagement in a statement he signed Thursday titled ‘In Anambra, President Tinubu Pledges to Tackle Erosion, Reactivate Gas Plan And Integrate State Into The National Rail System.’
Responding to Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s requests, the President acknowledged the persistence of abandoned federal road projects in the region.
He emphasised the strategic importance of completing roads linking Anambra to Kogi State to facilitate easier access to the South-South and Abuja.
“Abandoned federal road projects that link Anambra to Kogi can then become the fastest gateway between Abuja and Anambra South and South-South. I agree,” he said.
Tinubu addressed the state’s exclusion from the National Rail Master Plan, assuring residents that the Federal Ministry of Transportation would rectify the omission.

“I am standing before you to say that the Ministry of Transportation is aware and will include the connection in the Master Plan and give it attention,” the President stated.
President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to support Anambra State in addressing its ecological and developmental concerns, with a particular focus on erosion control and the state’s under-leveraged gas reserves. Speaking during his visit to Awka, the President acknowledged Anambra’s exclusion from the National Gas Master Plan as a critical oversight and promised corrective action at the federal level.
He further expressed readiness to back ecological investments aimed at mitigating the devastating effects of erosion, a long-standing environmental challenge across the South-East.
Commending the state government for notable strides in strengthening local security architecture, Tinubu reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to fostering peace, security, and sustainable development across the region. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between the federal and state governments in achieving shared goals for the benefit of citizens.
The President also underscored the need to embrace national unity, urging Nigerians to view the country’s cultural and ethnic diversity as a strength to be leveraged, not a division to be feared.
