Police: No Helicopter Supplied Food To Bandits In Kogi

The Nigeria Police Force has firmly dismissed circulating reports alleging that one of its helicopters was used to ferry food supplies to armed groups in Kogi State, labeling the claims as both “spurious and intentionally deceptive.”

In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police clarified that the video fueling the accusations was, in fact, footage of a coordinated security mission carried out in the Obajana area of Kogi State.

Dismissing the viral narrative as a calculated attempt to mislead the public, the statement stressed that the aerial asset was engaged as part of a lawful security intervention conducted on May 10, 2025. The operation, the police explained, involved a coalition of law enforcement personnel, local vigilante groups, and community hunters working together to dismantle criminal syndicates and stem the tide of banditry in the area.

The deployment of the helicopter, according to the police, formed an integral element of the mission’s broader tactical strategy aimed at restoring public safety and reinforcing the security architecture across Kogi’s volatile corridors.

“The police helicopter was deployed as part of the mission to provide aerial support and surveillance to ground forces involved in the tactical operation,” Adejobi stated.

The Force emphasised that it remains resolute in its efforts to secure all parts of the country and condemned the spread of unverified information that could undermine public trust.

“The Force hereby urges members of the public to disregard the unfounded and mischievous claims surrounding the viral video. Citizens are encouraged to rely solely on official police communication channels for accurate and verified information regarding security activities,” the NPF stated.

Adejobi reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to national security and assured Nigerians that it would maintain close collaboration with relevant stakeholders to ensure public safety. He stated that the Nigeria Police Force remained dedicated to protecting the lives and property of all Nigerians and would continue to work with stakeholders to strengthen public safety and national security.
