Police Launch Manhunt For Attackers Of Rivers Council Administrator

The Rivers State Police Command has strongly denounced the brutal assault on Goodluck Iheanachor, Administrator of Ahoada-East Local Government Area, calling the incident both “heinous” and “reprehensible.”

In a statement issued on Sunday, the police confirmed that the attack took place on June 20, 2025, around 1:40 p.m., when approximately 30 assailants stormed the council secretariat.

The attackers allegedly manhandled Iheanachor, confiscated his mobile devices, coerced him into signing a resignation letter under duress, and made off with sensitive official documents as well as his personal belongings.

The administrator is currently said to be receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained during the attack but is said to be in stable condition.

The Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga A. Adepoju, alongside heads of other security agencies, visited the scene and ordered the immediate arrest of all suspects involved.

The police statement read in part, “The Rivers State Police Command is aware and deeply disturbed by the heinous attack on the Sole Administrator of Ahoada-East Local Government Area, Goodluck Iheanachor.

“On June 20, 2025, at about 1340hrs, a group of hoodlums numbering about 30, led by Mr Hector Ekakita, the Chief Security Officer (CSO) and the Chief of Staff (COS) to the sole administrator, respectively, stormed the council secretariat and attacked him.

“The Rivers State Police Command unequivocally condemns this reprehensible act and has taken swift action. The Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, after visiting the scene of the attack with heads of other sister security agencies in the state, has directed the Chief Security Officer (CSO), Chief Of Staff (COS), and all those involved in this action to report to the Police State Headquarters, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, for questioning.”

Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, issued a stern warning that anyone failing to honour the police invitation over the incident would face serious legal repercussions, reaffirming the command’s resolve to ensure justice is served.

The command further urged residents to stay calm and continue to uphold the law, assuring the public that all necessary measures are being taken to preserve peace and security across Rivers State.
