Bolaji Abdullahi, the spokesperson for the opposition coalition, has shed light on why the group chose the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform for the 2027 elections.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Abdullahi explained that the ADC was selected because of its willingness to embrace reforms and its alignment with the coalition’s core values and collective vision for the country.
“When we started this journey, we had a list of options, parameters, and conditionalities—the kind of party we were looking for. Those from the APC said no, because the founding principles that led to the formation of the APC had been betrayed.
“Those from the PDP said the party, once a political behemoth, has lost its way. Labour Party members also expressed regret over their past experiences. So everyone agreed that if we’re going forward, we must have a set of agreed-upon principles.

Abdullahi stated that the coalition was seeking a party open to being restructured in line with its broader vision, adding that most political parties today lacked the discipline and organisational strength that characterised parties during Nigeria’s First and Second Republics.
He acknowledged that although the ADC was not a perfect fit, it offered a rare chance for meaningful reform.
He explained that the coalition saw the ADC as a party that could accommodate the type of transformation they envisioned, noting that some people had described it as being as malleable as clay, which could be shaped into a useful pot — a quality he said made it the right choice for their movement.
