Liverpool Open Talks With Palace For Defender Marc Guéhi

Liverpool have opened talks with Crystal Palace over defender Marc Guéhi, though negotiations are proving challenging with the two clubs still far apart in their valuations.

The England international has been on Liverpool’s radar as they continue to explore options to strengthen their back line. Guéhi’s consistency at Palace, coupled with his growing stature within Gareth Southgate’s national team setup, has made him an attractive target.

Initial discussions have taken place, but sources close to both clubs describe the current gap in valuation as “significant.” Palace, who see Guéhi as a cornerstone of their defensive unit, are under no pressure to sell and are thought to be holding firm on a premium asking price. Liverpool, meanwhile, remain reluctant to meet those demands outright, mindful of balancing squad investment with broader financial considerations.

Even so, further talks are expected to take place later this week as Liverpool test Palace’s resolve and continue to weigh the importance of defensive reinforcements heading into the new season. The Reds have been monitoring the market closely following recent injuries and the gradual transition of their back line.

For Guéhi, the prospect of Champions League football and competing at the very top of the Premier League could prove persuasive, though Palace would likely insist on a figure reflecting both his quality and his importance to Oliver Glasner’s plans.

As negotiations resume, much will depend on whether Liverpool are prepared to edge closer to Palace’s demands—or if Palace soften their stance under sustained pressure. At present, a deal remains some way off, but the door is not closed.
