Guardiola sees Savinho as a vital part of his squad and has rejected offers as high as £60 million—or even closer to £70 million—citing his importance and the lack of a ready replacement . Financially, City is under no pressure to sell; an analyst notes they’ve generated nearly £160 million in profit over the past two seasons, reinforcing their ability to retain key talent.
Reports also link the block to City’s earlier failed pursuit of Real Madrid’s Rodrygo—suggesting Savinho’s departure was contingent on that deal, which collapsed when Rodrygo reaffirmed his commitment to Madrid.
For Tottenham, this is a significant setback, especially amid injury concerns and limited time before the transfer window closes . The club is now exploring alternatives, with Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche emerging as a compelling and more affordable option—valued around £47.5 million, significantly below City’s valuation of Savinho.
