Beşiktaş have officially relieved Ole Gunnar Solskjær of his duties as head coach following their elimination from European competition. The decision comes less than an hour after the Turkish club were knocked out of the UEFA Conference League by Swiss side Lausanne, losing 1–0 on the night and 2–1 on aggregate.
The board held an emergency meeting immediately after the collapse, culminating in the formal termination of Solskjær’s contract. In a brief statement, Beşiktaş thanked the former Manchester United manager for his contributions.
Solskjær had taken over the Turkish Super Lig outfit in January 2025, marking his first managerial position since departing Manchester United in 2021. His initial tenure started positively: he led Beşiktaş to a respectable fourth-place finish last season, successfully guiding them into the European qualifying rounds.

However, their European aspirations unraveled this season. After being eliminated from the Europa League by Shakhtar Donetsk, Beşiktaş shifted to the Conference League. While they overcame Shamrock Rovers with a 7–3 aggregate, their campaign ended abruptly when Lausanne inflicted the decisive blow. Contributing to the collapse, Beşiktaş saw defender Felix Uduokhai sent off early in the second half of the second leg.
By the end of his tenure, Solskjær had managed 29 matches—securing 15 victories—but ultimately failed to guide the club to group-stage European football. It’s a rare misstep in his managerial record since his return, including memorable highlights like a stunning derby win over Galatasaray earlier this season.
With Solskjær now out of a job, Beşiktaş face the challenge of finding a new manager capable of steadying the ship. The club has a busy domestic and European rebound to navigate, beginning with their position in the Süper Lig and upcoming Turkish Cup fixtures. Current standings show the team sitting eighth in the league, signaling turbulence ahead.
