Paul Pogba is reportedly nearing a return to action with AS Monaco, after being sidelined for approximately 26 months due to a mix of suspension and injury. The former France international has recovered sufficiently to rejoin team training, and reports suggest he could feature as soon as this weekend, possibly in Monaco’s match against Rennes. Sources say he has “recovered from injury” and is preparing for his competitive comeback.
Pogba’s absence from the pitch was largely down to a doping ban, imposed after testing positive for DHEA. Initially handed a four-year suspension in 2024, the ban was later reduced to 18 months on appeal, clearing the way for his return in March 2025.
In June 2025, Pogba sealed a two-year contract with AS Monaco, marking his first stint in Ligue 1 despite being French. The move represented a fresh start — one driven as much by his desire to play again as by the club’s ambition. Monaco finished third in Ligue 1 last season and are in a position that could allow Pogba to re-establish himself on a big stage.

According to Pogba and his camp, he is “mentally and physically ready” for a return to top-level football. He has expressed motivation to show that he still has what it takes, and he remains hopeful of being selected for the France national team again, possibly with an eye on the 2026 World Cup.
That said, Monaco’s management is taking a cautious route. While preparations are well underway, they acknowledge that assessing Pogba’s current form will be key. As the midfielder edges closer to his comeback, all eyes will be on how quickly he can adapt to competitive football after such a long layoff — and whether he can recapture some of the brilliance that once made him one of the world’s most feared midfielders.
