Troops of Operation Sahel Sanity fighting against bandits in the North-West has killed several bandits and arrested two bandits collaborators in the region.

A statement by the Acting Director, Defence Media Operations, Defence Headquarters, Abuja, Brig. General Bernard Onyeuko said the continued aggressive operations of the troops have recently recorded more achievements in the fight against bandits.
Onyeuko said On 29th October, troops reacted swiftly to a call about bandits activities who attacked Diskuru village in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State and shooting sporadically.
‘The gallant troops engaged the criminals in a fierce fire fight forcing them to withdraw in disarray while three bandits were neutralized by the troops as several others were believed to have escaped with various degrees of gunshot wounds,’ he said.
Onyeuko said during the exploitation phase, two additional bandits’ bodies were discovered along their withdrawal route.
He added that during the operation three women and their infants earlier kidnapped by the bandits were rescued.
‘Regrettably, one brave soldier paid the supreme price in an attempt to save one of the rescued nursing mothers in the heat of the encounter,’ he said.
The Acting Director said on 27th October, troops deployed at Dan Ali village arrested 2 suspected bandits collaborators namely Samaila Usman and Idi Bello.
‘The troops will not relent on their oars until the Northwest zone is rid of all criminal activities. The good people of the Northwest are once more assured of the troops’ commitment to safety of lives and properties within the zone,’ he said.
