United States has warned against violence in the forthcoming general elections in Nigeria.
This came from U.S Assistant Secretary, Bureau of African Affairs,Tibor Nagy Jr, in his testimony to the U.S House of Representatives, Sub-Commitee on Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights, and International Organisations.
Speaking at the event entitled, “Nigeria at a Crossroad: The Upcoming Elections.”
Nagy pinpointed on areas that may cause serious issues especially potential attacks on the legitimacy of INEC and the electoral process for political gain, intimidation and partisanship by security forces. Other areas of concern that were highlighted are insecurity, terrorist attacks on elections institutions, or violence towards voters, observers, or electoral officials and an inability of large numbers of internally displaced persons with disabilities to vote.
