Nigerian Labour chooses strike

Due to the delay by the Federal Government to forward the bill on the new minimum wage to the National Assembly, January 8,2019 has been set by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, to commence an indefinite natiowide strike. According to NLC President, Ayuba Wabba, he buttresses the fact that nothing will impede the strike if nothing is done to avert it. He appealed to all workers in the country to support the move in the interest of social and economic prosperity. He also urged Federal Government to quickly transmit bill to the National Assembly for speedy accentuation.
Wabba stressed that “It is unfortunate that the Federal Government is yet to transmit to the National Assembly an executive bill for the enactment of #30,000 as the new national minimum wage. Government’s dilly-dallying on the issue has strained Government-Labour relations with a potential for a major national strike which could just be days away.”
