Jigawa State Comptroller stated made this disclosure through the command’s spokesman, Superintendent Bala Adamu in Dutse, the state capital
He explained that three days to the expiration of dateline given to the foreigners residing illegally in the state, the Nigerian Immigration Service says it has registered a total of 2,041 foreigners residing illegally in Jigawa State.
He warned foreigners living in the state to get registered before the expiration of the amnesty period.
Bala said any foreigner who refuses to get registered will be liable to three years imprisonment or pay a fine of five hundred thousand Naira.
“Registration is compulsory for all foreigners, 18 years and above residing in the country for more than 19 months,” he stated.
Secretary of the Association of Niger Citizens Living in Jigawa State, Malam Tanimu Isyaku Dutse, expressed satisfaction on registration process.
He said, his association has been given all necessary cooperation for the exercise through making official arrangement for transporting their members from across all 27 local government of the state.
He advised the members of the association to get registered before amnesty expiration.

“Any member who failed to get registered before the expiration of amnesty period without any concrete reason is on his own,” he noted.
The Federal Government had set 12th of January, 2020 as a dateline to foreigners living illegally in the country without being registered.
The registration exercise will enhance the monitoring and control of non-nationals, aid sharing of data and encourage partnership.
It will also help in exchange of valuable and actionable intelligence among the security agencies and other institutions involved in Migration management as provided for in the National Migration policy, 2015.
