A video has emerged which shows the late Colonel Odumegwu Ojukwu talking about the Aburi accord and how Nigeria betrayed the consensus which they had after a meeting in 1967. This was the last hope of preventing the civil war.
In video he talked about how he came to a good agreement with General Yakubu Gowon and he thought everything was agreed on, and how he took a ride to the airport with General Yakubu Gowon and General Ankara in the same vehicle, all in the spirit of friendship and good understanding.

In his words “I took Gowon’s hand and placed it on General Ankara’s lap and placed my hand on top and asked General Ankara to hold the two hands-on top while I say something. He did. And I said, if everything we have agreed at the accord comes to pass, I will like you to personally appoint General Yakubu Gowon as the supreme head of state of all Nigeria.”
“The foreign ambassadors at Lagos had always been against the accords” He quipped.
“I never wanted a war, go and check the transcripts of the meeting”.
