The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has commended security agents and pro-Biafra groups for orderly conduct and peaceful disposition during the burial of the traditional ruler of Afaraukwu Umuahia Ibeku, Late Eze Isreal Kanu and wife, Ugoeze Sally Kanu.
Late Eze Kanu, and wife, Sally who are the parents of the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, were committed to the mother earth at their residence in Isiama Afaraukwu Ibeku on Friday.
The burial ceremony attracted thousands of Jewish worshippers, IPOB members, representatives of different pro-Biafra groups, PDP vice Presidential candidate during 2019 general elections, Dr. Peter Obi, Senate Minority leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, Senator Victor Umeh, Traditional Prime Minister of Ibeku Ancient Kingdom, Chief Uche Akwukwaegwu, and Chief Godffery Onyemaobi.
However, Ohanaeze, in a short release by its spokesman, Chuks Ibegbu and forwarded to DAILY POST on Friday night, said it was elated that despite the huge crowd that witnessed the burial event, all security measures put in place were successful.
Ibegbu said, “We also commend Abia state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ene Okon, the Army, IPOB and other Stakeholders for the peaceful conduct at the which attracted mammoth crowds ever seen in Umuahia in recent time.
“Some eminent Nigerians and Igbo leaders also witnessed the event. We are all Nigerians and should be treated each other with respect. IPOB and pro-Biafra agitators are not Nigeria enemies. We call on Mr. President to see them as his Children unhappy with state of affairs in the country”.
Ibegbu, however, called for a new corridor of understanding among all the stakeholders in the country.
