Desertification - Bauchi Group Plants 40,0000 Tree Seedlings

A Non-Governmental Organization, Bauchi Green Project (BGP) in collaboration with the Bauchi State Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, on Saturday, commenced planting 40,000 tree seedlings in schools across the state.

Malam Mohammed Rabiu, Coordinator of the organization, who spoke during the inauguration ceremony at Baima village in Warji Local Government Area, said the exercise was designed to control desert encroachment in the state.

He reiterated that there was lack of trees in most of the schools, a situation which made life unbearable to school children.

He explained that the exercise was to make children understand the need to live in harmony with nature for sustainable development.

Rabiu called on the students to imbibe the culture of planting trees to control desertification and protect the environment for sustainable development.

In his remark, Alhaji Sani Jibrin, Principal of Baima Government Day Secondary School, Baima, commended the organization for its efforts to check desertification in the state.

He assured that the school would ensure the protection of trees planted.

On his part, the Village Head of Baima, Alhaji Uzairu Jibrin, pledged to complement their efforts in tree planting to control desertification and protect the environment.
