The identity of the second Coronavirus case recorded in Rivers State is a 62-year-old returnee from UK who is also a retiree.
Rivers State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Princewill Chike disclosed this in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Tuesday, explaining said that the victim came from the UK on March 21 but spent a month at the Lagos International Airport and developed a flu-like symptoms.
The Health Commissioner said since the victim returned he has been on self-isolation before he developed symptoms akin to flu.
Samples were collected from the victim and in accordance with the NCDC guideline, the test result was out and he was confirmed to be positive.
“He is presently at isolation and treatment centre at Eleme, in Eleme local government area ,which has a 30-bed space capacity,” he said.
Prof. Chike also noted that “the risk communications will continue and that the treatment centre is active, noting that the state has 35 persons under medical surveillance and close monitoring who returned from abroad not too long ago”.
He called on the residents to stop trivializing COVID-19 and observe Social distancing,which is key to escaping the infection and to avoid crowded places.
