Threat To Sanction CNN: Aisha Yesufu Condemns Lai MohammedAisha Yesufu

Aisha Yesufu, a co-convener of the #BrigBackOurGirls movement and one of those at the forefront of #EndSARS protest, has condemned the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, over his threat to sanction CNN over their report on #EndSARS protesters at Lekki.

CNN released a video documentary narrating what happened on the night of October 20, 2020 where many Nigerian youths lost their lives protesting against police brutality and bad governance having been shot at by the Nigeria Military. Government and Military have doubled down on their claim that they never shot at the protesters to accept that they shot at the blank bullet in the sky.

But the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed had at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, condemned CNN over its report on the shooting of #EndSARS protesters by soldiers at the Lekki toll plaza on October 20, 2020.

The minister who called the #EndSARS shooting at Lekki ‘Massacre without bodies’ described the CNN report as ‘irresponsible journalism’, calling for a sanction against the media outfit.

He also alleged that the media outlet relied on social media videos without verification to produce its report. Lai Mohamed also blamed some celebrities for spreading fake news saying: ‘some unscrupulous persons, including celebrities’ circulated fake news on the social media that aggravated the violence that trailed the two weeks demonstration’.

But in a tweet via her Twitter page on Thursday, Yesufu berated the minister for disregarding the report done by CNN, adding that the federal government continues to deny the killings of innocent and unarmed #EndSARS protesters. The activist also slammed the minister for denying that officers of the Nigerian Army opened fire on the protesters and that the soldiers fired blank bullets to the skies at the toll gate.
