Reports have also revealed that the retreating soldiers abandoned their weapons and personal belongings including handsets, which were carted away by the insurgents.

“The terrorists overpowered the Nigerian troops who were left with few ammunitions and without support equipment such as RPG, AA and MG,” a source told Newsmen.

Residents said the insurgents who occupied Ajire village between 9pm on Wednesday and 4am on Thursday did not attack civilians.

In another report, two commuters had lost their lives on the spot on Sunday as a result of an attack by suspected terrorists along Gamboru Ngala road in Borno State just before the first light.

The two persons reportedly dead were drivers shot inside their vehicles while driving towards Ngala before the approved time to ply.

The gunshots and the improvised explosive device (IED) went off at the same time, leaving others critically injured and bleeding profusely before relief arrived.

According to a reliable source who spoke to Africa Today News in New York, the incident began when ‘a trailer drove over an improvised explosive device (IED) that later exploded, killing him and injuring other occupants.’

The source claims that two more commuters may have died as a result of excessive bleeding, shooting the casualties to four dead before help came.

The reliable military source said that “immediately the explosion took place, the Islamic State of West Africa (ISWAP) who were watching at the sidelines moved in and looted the food items from the trailer and loaded two of their Hilux vehicles with the items.

The attackers also seized one Volkswagen vehicle after killing the driver. They then asked the women, children, and other passengers inside to disembark so that they can steal the vehicle away into the Savannah.

‘After killing those commuters, they equally stopped one trailer loaded with iron rods thinking it was food stuffs. In discovering that it was not consumable goods they allowed him to go.’
