In fresh remarks against the dastardly massacre in a Catholic church that left scores dead, the Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has also described the unfortunate attack on the worshippers at the Catholic Church in Owo part of the state as one of the terrible by-products of absurd federalism which is being practiced in Nigeria.
Governor Akeredolu had made this analysis when he received a condolence visit of the Christians Judges and Lawyers under the aegis of Christian Lawyers Fellowship of Nigeria (CLASFON) Southwest, at the Cocoa Conference Hall of the Governor’s Office, Alagbaka, Akure.
The Governor stressed that the issue of state police, for example, won’t be a problem if the country has embraced true federalism.
“On the 5th of June, 2022, the sun didn’t shine in this sunshine state. It was a dark day. These mindless killers. These criminals. These terrorists were able to snuff live out of 40 people.
“It was an unfortunate incident. This is a by-product of our absurd federalism. We will continue to prosecute our conviction with courage. This federalism is absurd.
“We lawyers have a part to play in this. When we talk about federalism, it is clear to us all, but is that what is obtainable today?
“Pray for this country so that there will be change. Let us pray for good leadership. Let us pray for a federalism all of us can be proud of. Let us pray for restructuring.
The group was led by the Regional Coordinator Southwest, Osas Justy Erhabor. They were also joined by Justice (Prof.) Alero Akeredolu and Justice Blessing Ajileye.
The group lauded the efforts of the Governor in securing the lives and property of the people of the state and for his courageous leadership has reinforced hope that there are still trusted leaders in the country.
“We know all the efforts you have made to secure not just Ondo state but the entire Southwest.
“We know those who are competent leaders in a time like this. You have shown competence. We are with you. We know what it takes to have Amotekun. We know the limitations.
“In the midst of all these, you stood firm and you have given us hope that there are leaders we can still trust.
“We are grateful for your courage. At times, we are scared for you. But we know you from the days of NBA that when you speak everyone shakes,” the group noted.
The group also made donation to the victims of the Owo terror attack.
