Ahead of the Osun State governorship election this month, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, has revealed that the commission has put everything in place to ensure the elections is better than the recently concluded Ekiti State governorship poll.
He pointed out that this was important ahead of the upcoming 2023 general election.

He also urged electoral officers of INEC to be proactive in their duties ahead of the election, especially making appropriate plans for logistics before the exercise.
Africa Today News, New York reports that this year’s Osun governorship election is slated to hold on July 16.
‘Identify the Registration Area Centers (RAC) so that on the election day, you can activate the centres as early as 6 am. We should be waiting for the electorate, not otherwise,” Yakubu said.
‘Remember, Ekiti was good, but we want Osun to beat our record in Ekiti and the 2023 General election.
‘We rely on you for transportation arrangements, early movement of materials, liaison with the security, moving them in good time…we must do this right. At the RAC centres, ensure adequate electricity so that they can recharge some of the equipment like the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) and power banks so that on Election Day, we can have a seamless exercise.’
In a related development, ahead of the Osun State July 16, 2022 governorship election, a group, Osun Masterminds, has urged political parties to imbibe issues-based campaigns as part of efforts to enthrone good governance capable of raising the welfare of the citizens.
The group also urged the populace to brace up and participate effectively in the electoral process by electing credible leaders without recourse to collecting gratification capable of jeopardising the future development of the state.
Executive Director of the group, Dr. Wasiu Oyedokun Alli, in a statement, said the critical situations people are passing through should serve as a guide in the choice of good leaders.
Alli, who decried the recent alleged misconduct and misuse of power by some officers in the state police command, noted that law enforcement officers should be more humane in their relationship with the citizens.
