Investigate Govs Owing Salaries, Pensions - TCN To EFCC, ICPC

The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TCN, have put out an open charge to the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, ICPC, to make sure that they investigate State governors who are currently owing salaries and pensions.

The TUC president, Quadri Olaleye had made the call at the 12th Triennial National Delegates Conference on Tuesday in Abuja. He also expressed worry over the huge number of states owing pension, salaries and allowances in arrears after collecting refund, bailout funds, budget support fund and the Paris debt refund.

“We condemn it and demand that the EFCC and ICPC investigate and bring the governors to book.

“It’s our thought that paying retirees their entitlement will assist to curb corruption because when people know that they will get their entitlements when they retire, it will check stealing.”

Olaleye noted that the governors who claimed that they had no money to pay, have money to pay their predecessors and also fund “their reckless lifestyle’.

“For those of them withholding the contributory pension deductions from workers salaries without remitting same to their Pension Fund Administration (PFAs), we warn that it is illegal and attracts some penalties,” Olaleye said.

It was also recently reported that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have confirmed the arrest of persons alleged to have engaged in vote-buying in the Ekiti governorship election.

Africa Today News, New York reports that the EFCC is part of the security agencies deployed to monitor the election.

While parading some of the suspects at the Oke Ori Omi Area Division of the Nigerian Police Force, the suspects were said to have been caught with monies allegedly used to induce voters, an act the EFCC officials say were carried out surreptitiously.

The EFCC thereafter proceeded to burst into another residence where some persons were caught with a book containing details of voters of the certain voting area.
