Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, has ordered the Osun State Police Command to launch a meticulous probe into the occurrence in the aftermath of the mass murders that supposedly occurred over the weekend triggered by violence during a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ward meeting in Ede town.
The Governor expressed his defance over the police officer’s shooting of Abideen Olalekan and his wife Kafayat Olalekan after an unsettled altercation that involved two close relatives.
The Osun Police Command spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, indicated in the statement ordering the disintegration of the squad that the decision was made in response to reports of the males of the squad’s members’ unethical behaviors.
Oyetola expressed his condolences to the deceased couple’s family members in a statement released under the signature of Ismail Omipidan, his chief press secretary. Oyetola called the killing of the couple disheartening and sad.
This contained in the statement: ‘From the information made available to me, I understand that the late Abideen and Kafayat were brutally killed allegedly by men in uniform who appeared at the scene where they were not meant to be at that material time. The deceased should not have died under such unfortunate and avoidable circumstances.’
‘My thoughts and prayers are with the Olalekan family at this moment of grief. I pray God to grant the departed eternal rest and give the bereaved family the fortitude to bear this huge loss.’
The Governor promised the family that those responsible for the heinous act would suffer the harshest penalties, he futher emphasized that the dilemma would not be ignored.
PDP ward gathering in the town where Abideen Olalekan was shot was the vertex of turmoil, according to Kofoworola Babajide, a serving member and the minority leader of the Osun Assembly.
Additionally, it was alleged that his wife Kafayat Olalekan was shot on the same day but at a different spot.
The legislator’s father is still missing as a result of the double homicide, which also affected the legislator’s paternal house.
