How Top Officials In Some Stole Billions, EFCC Reveals

In a recent report, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa has openly tasked the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs and Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to make sure that they shun any form of corruption while operating.

Bawa had also called for prudent use of government resources which had been allocated to them by ensuring that the monies released for specific projects are used for the same purpose.

The anti-graft chief, represented by Uyo Zonal Commander Hamidu Bawa, had given the advise at the 5th National Council on Niger Delta in Uyo, capital of Akwa Ibom.

The senior police officer  had also vowed that the EFCC would always ensure that right things are done concerning the use of public funds.

“There’s a new sheriff in town. The NDDC must acknowledge this reality and know that it’s no longer business as usual.

“Some staff identified to have mismanaged and embezzled government resources have been prosecuted, convicted and proceeds of crime forfeited.”

He said EFCC would go after corrupt practices and appealed to officials to always do the right thing to avoid problems.

In another report, the chairman of Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has disclosed that the number of suspects it has convicted; in total, 2,210 offenders have been imprisoned due to their alleged involvement in economic and financial offenses. This was recorded between January 1, 2022, to August 5, 2022.

Abdulrasheed Bawa, The Executive Chairman of the anti-graft commission related it to the public when he addressed a meeting with journalists tagged, ‘Effective Reporting of Economic and Financial Crimes‘. The meeting was held at the EFCC’s Headquarters, located in Abuja.

About eight months following the EFCC’s announcement that it has amassed 2,220 convictions in total, throughout its Stations in 2021.

According to reports, this has been the highest number of arrests the EFCC has made since its establishment. This has increased by 127.5 percent away from the 1,280 convictions tallied by the commission in 2019.
