FG Resolves To Capture Schools’ Security In 2023 Budget

Fresh reports reaching the desk of Africa Today News, New York has revealed that the Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari will be making the presentation of the 2023 budget to the joint session of the National Assembly come Friday.

The President had also personally wrote the letter which bore the budget presentation and which would also be read in plenary Tuesday by the Senate President, Dr. Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan.

The budget, which is also standing at about ₦19.76 trillion, will also be the last which would be be presented by President Buhari as his tenure elapses on May 19, 2023.

Senate President Lawan had also announced that Mr. President would also appear personally to address the joint session of the parliamentarians as against the earlier fears that there might be no space to accommodate the session due to the ongoing renovation.

Ahead of Friday’s budget event, security in and around the National Assembly is expected to be tightened.

Recent reports have revealed that the Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari led-Federal Government of Nigeria has promised to include the security of schools in the 2023 budget.

While making comments at the safe-school summit organised by the Emergency Coordination Center in Abuja on Thursday, the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, said, ‘In 2023 budget, we will make sure we make specific budget to support financing of safety of our schools.’

She pointed out that the Federal Government would also be doing its best to encourage states to make specific commitments to the safety of schools.

She noted that consultation were underway with states, local governments and critical stakeholders to identify the most transparent, effective and accountable ways of mobilising and deploying resources.

Ahmed also disclosed that the national financing plan for the security and safety of schools across the country would be unveiled before the end of the third quarter of this year.
