The Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari has finally performed the swearing ceremony for Justice Ariwoola Olukayode who would be taking the mantle of the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria.
It can also be recalled that this is coming on the heels of the resignation of the outgone CJN, Justice Tanko Muhammad, who had resigned on health grounds. Justice Ariwoola had taken over in an acting capacity.
Justice Ariwoola had also taken the judicial oath of office on Wednesday in a brief ceremony which had been held at the Council Chambers in Abuja.
The ceremony had also been witnessed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, ministers, other justices of the Supreme Court, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde and his Ondo State counterpart, Rotimi Akeredolu.
He had also been appointed a Justice of the Supreme Court on November 22, 2011, by President Goodluck Jonathan.
In another report, the Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari has on Tuesday in Abuja conferred a series of National Honours on up to 450 Nigerians and non-Nigerians, among them being the Director General of the World Trade Organisation, Dr Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, Deputy Secretary-General of UN, Amina Mohammed and Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Prof Tijjani Muhammad-Bande.
Some of the others who had also made the honours lists include renowned novelist, Chimamanda Adichie, Senate President Ahmed Lawan, Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, immediate past CJN, Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad among others.
President Buhari had made some justification to the honours while reiterating that the awardees had also managed to distinguish themselves in the service of the nation and humanity.
He had also asserted that citizens who had contribute to national development deserve to be encouraged and appreciated.
