2023 How Northern Gov Stashed ₦22bn In His Home - Galadima

Mallam Buba Galadima, the former National Secretary of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), has come out alleging that a serving governor in the country has ₦22 billion old naira notes stashed in his home.

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), chieftain made this revelation during an interview on Trust TV’s Daily Politics which was monitored by Africa Today News, New York, however, he refused to disclose the name of the governor.

Galadima said, ‘I agree. I know, from intelligence, that a governor in the Northwestern part has about N22 billion of the old currency.

Yes, N22 billion stacked in his house as I speak to you. He knows himself. And the security agencies know.’

He further revealed that security agencies haven’t arrested him yet because ‘maybe they belong to the same club or they are protecting him’.

Recall that Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN) who is the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, has said the Federal Government would comply with the order of the Supreme Court for the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to suspend its scheduled deadline for the use of the old ₦200, ₦500, and ₦1000 banknotes.

Malami, since filed a preliminary objection to challenge the apex court order, said the government would abide by it until it was set aside.

The AGF made FG’s position on the matter known when he appeared as a guest on Arise Television in a program monitored by Africa

He faulted the order of the apex court on the premise that the CBN, being a necessary party, was not joined in the suit that was filed by three northern states.

It was Malami’s position that joining the CBN in the suit that was filed by Kaduna, Kogi and Zamfara states, would have stripped the Supreme Court of the requisite jurisdiction to entertain the case as the court of first instance.

He stressed that despite the fact that the apex court lacked the jurisdiction to suspend the February 10 deadline the CBN okayed for the end of the use of the old banknotes as let tender in the country, he said FG would obey the ruling owing to its inclination to the rule of law.
