Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State, on Monday, called on judges to adopt a stringent approach in dealing with criminals to effectively address the prevailing wave of criminality in the state.
The call for a robust stance against criminals was made by Governor Nasir Idris during the swearing-in ceremony of Justice Umar Abubakar as the new Chief Judge of Kebbi State.
Reports has it that the inauguration of the new Chief Judge in Birnin Kebbi after his confirmation by the House of Assembly on January 4.
The governor lauded the new Chief Judge as an illustrious son of the state, expressing pride in his outstanding achievements and records within the judiciary.

‘We will reform the judiciary in the state and create an enabling environment for it to work,’ he said.
The governor urged the CJ to ensure that proper things were done in the judiciary.
“Our state is at a crossroads now; you must right the wrongs and be hard on criminals,” he said.
The governor also urged the new chief judge to partner with other arms of government for the development of the state.
Earlier reports highlight that Abubakar, in the period preceding his swearing-in, had been fulfilling the duties of the acting chief judge, succeeding Justice Sulaiman Ambursa, who retired after a two-year term as chief judge.
Adding to the proceedings, the governor administered the oath of office to Sadiq Usman-Mukhtar from the state Sharia Court of Appeal in a parallel development.
Adding to the agenda, the governor officially commenced the governing boards of select state-owned tertiary institutions.
Among the institutions involved are the University of Science and Technology, Aliero; College of Nursing Science, Birnin Kebbi; Adamu Augie College of Education; School of Health Technology, Jega; and College of Basic and Advanced Studies, Yauri.
