Renowned human rights champion Dele Farotimi has emphasized the impossibility of President Bola Tinubu disassociating himself from the inadequacies of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Omokri made this statement during an interview aired on Channels Television last Friday.
It’s worth noting that President Tinubu’s Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, attributed the nation’s current socio-economic and security difficulties to Buhari’s eight-year tenure.
However, Farotimi pointed out that Tinubu actively promoted Buhari to Nigerians leading up to the 2015 general elections and cannot distance himself from the shortcomings of the Buhari administration.
Farotimi noted that there has been no significant change since May 2015, when the APC succeeded former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He said, “The evidence of the last nine months are unimpeachable and cannot be denied. I know that the convenient excuse is that Buhari had damaged it (Nigeria) and he (Tinubu) is repairing it but who brough Buhari?
“Who was the chief marketer of Buhari in 2014/2015 when the ‘Change’ lie was sold to Nigerians?”

Farotimi said nothing has been done by the Tinubu government, adding that Nigerians should brace up for more challenges beyond the economic hardship occasioned by the petrol subsidy removal and floating of the naira.
According to Farotimi, the future of Nigeria appears bleak.
He said, “I am going to be 56 years old this year and in my entire lifetime, we have never been far away from greatness than we are today. The future of Nigeria appears bleak than it has ever been in my entire lifetime.
“The problem in Nigeria is each and every one of us, most importantly the complete breakdown of the rule of law”.
According to him, “Nigeria has copious laws in writing but there is no rule of law in our space as “the laws are observed more in breach.
“Nigeria as it is today is not ruled by law but by impunity,” he said. “When you look beyond that, you begin to look at the institutions of state.”
Farotimi stressed the necessity for the nation to advance by ensuring the primacy of justice, commencing with the judiciary, the legislature, and the executive.
He implored Nigerians to recognize that individuals from other ethnic groups are not their adversaries, asserting that those benefitting from the corrupt system have resisted reform and have weaponized poverty, ethnicity, and religion.
