The Nigerian Presidency has revealed that President Bola Tinubu will this Thursday finally launch the Student Loan Scheme after series of postponements.
Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, disclosed this on Sunday while appearing on TVC’s programme ‘Counting the Cost of Presidents Tinubu’s Reforms’ which was monitored by Africa Today News, New York.
According to Ngelale, “Later this week, on Thursday, the President will launch the historic National Student Loan Programme.
“This is a major form of obligation reduction for Nigerians and families and young people at a time when Nigerians are feeling the pinch. We believe this is the way to go.”
On June 12, 2023, Tinubu signed the Access to Higher Education Act, 2023, into law.

The bill is aimed at enabling students to access interest-free loans for educational purposes.
The Federal Government had delayed in starting the scheme that was initially scheduled to commence between September and October 2023.
In another report, the government of President Tinubu has described as false and baseless the claim by Senator Abdul Ningi of Bauchi Central that the 2024 national budget was padded to the tune of Trillions Naira.
Africa Today News, New York had over the weekend reported that Senator Ningi had queried the whereabouts of ₦3 trillion in the 2024 N28.7 trillion budget.
In a statement on Sunday, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy faulted Ningi’s claim insisting that it was untrue.
The presidency stated the Nigerian government allowed that the National Assembly to jacked up the national budget by N1.2 trillion in the spirit of Democracy.
“Following the false claims made by Senator Abdul Ningi, representing Bauchi Central, that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Federal Government is operating two versions of the 2024 budget, we consider it appropriate to inform Nigerians that there is no truth whatsoever in the allegation.
It added that it was uncharitable to claim that the 2024 budget was anti-North.
