Lagos State

The Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy has shed light on a pressing concern in Lagos State, where a significant 70% of residents have faced legal challenges in recent years, but lacked the necessary legal knowledge and support.

The Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy, founded by the Lagos State Government under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s leadership, proudly launched the EKO LAWS App on Wednesday, a landmark digital initiative driven by Team ACE’s 15 dedicated professionals, poised to transform the legal landscape in Lagos State and empower its citizens.

The innovative EKO LAWS App, born out of the academy’s Capstone Project, is designed to tackle pressing societal issues head-on, offering a cutting-edge solution that embodies the academy’s commitment to driving positive change.

On Wednesday, at a media briefing in Alausa, Ikeja, Usman Adeniji, Project Team Lead, shed light on the longstanding challenge of accessing legal information, affecting approximately 70% of residents who have faced legal issues in the past year.

Usman Adeniji stressed that the limited access to clear legal information has severe consequences, with merely 30% of residents informed, leading to increased legal problems, reliance on informal sources, and a staggering 30,000 cases filed in the judiciary last year, highlighting the need for urgent action.

He noted that the App was created to address ‘these challenges by creating a centralized and user-friendly legal resource that provides easy access to laws and legal information.’

Adeniji said the App has information on such child rights law, tenancy law among others, adding that its simple, user friendly, easy to search and navigate.

“It gives access to legal information on what the law is actually saying. The laws have been broken down for people to understand. Our priority is to promote law and justice in the state,” he said.

Usman Adeniji invited residents to tap into the App’s vast legal repository, staying ahead of the curve and informed about Lagos State’s laws, fostering a culture of legal awareness.
