Nottingham Forest dismissed head coach Ange Postecoglou just 20 minutes after Saturday’s 3-0 Premier League loss to Chelsea, amid mounting pressure as the club sits 17th and are currently on the edge of relegation.
The sacking comes after Postecoglou became the first Forest manager in the club’s history to fail to win any of his first eight matches in charge, an alarming statistic that showed the owner’s decision to act swiftly.
Postecoglou took charge of Nottingham Forest in early September, replacing Nuno Espírito Santo after a turbulent summer that saw the club rebuild following a narrow escape from relegation and a brief return to European competition. His arrival was met with optimism from both fans and pundits, given his attacking reputation and previous success at Tottenham Hotspur and Celtic.
But the optimism quickly gave way to frustration. Under his leadership, Forest failed to win any of their first eight league fixtures, collecting only three points. The team struggled to convert chances despite flashes of creativity, and defensive lapses became routine.

During Saturday’s 3-0 home defeat to Chelsea, owner Evangelos Marinakis was visibly agitated and left his seat before full time, moments after Pedro Neto doubled the visitors’ lead. The gesture summed up the mood at The City Ground — how quickly faith in the new project had evaporated.
Chelsea broke the deadlock early in the second half when Pedro Neto supplied an assist for 19-year-old Josh Acheampong and then scored himself from a free kick. Forest failed to respond despite creating early chances.
After the final whistle, boos rang out around the stadium and Postecoglou acknowledged the few remaining supporters with applause.
“This is a business where you need to win games. Otherwise, for all of us, it’s the same consequences,” Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca told TNT Sports, acknowledging the harsh reality of elite football management.
Forest now begin a search for their third head coach of the season, with media outlets reporting that former Forest player and Premier League-veteran manager Sean Dyche is being considered. But they would need to come to a decision quickly before their next game.
