Nathan Aké Transfer Talks Underway Between Everton, City

Everton has entered negotiations with Manchester City over the potential signing of Dutch defender Nathan Aké, as the club looks to reinforce its defense before the new Premier League season. The 30-year-old center-back, who can also operate at left-back, has been a consistent performer for Pep Guardiola’s side but could now be set for a move to Merseyside.

Aké joined Manchester City from Bournemouth in the summer of 2020 for a reported fee of £41 million. Since then, he has grown into an important member of City’s back line, playing a crucial role during the club’s historic treble-winning campaign in 2022–23. His calmness on the ball, positional awareness, and versatility have made him a reliable option in Guardiola’s rotation.

However, with the reigning champions boasting incredible depth in defense—including Ruben Dias, John Stones, Manuel Akanji, and Josko Gvardiol—Aké’s long-term future at the Etihad has come into question. Although he remains highly valued by City, Everton sees an opportunity to bring in a proven international with Premier League pedigree.

For Sean Dyche’s Everton, defensive reinforcements are a top priority. The club narrowly avoided relegation in recent seasons and understands the need for experience, leadership, and consistency at the back. Aké’s ability to read the game and adapt across defensive positions makes him a perfect candidate to stabilize Everton’s back line.

The Dutch international, capped more than 40 times by the Netherlands, also brings Champions League experience, something Everton’s squad currently lacks. If the deal goes through, he would not only improve Everton’s defense but also add leadership qualities to a young and developing side.

Talks between Everton and City are still in progress, and while no agreement has yet been finalized, there is optimism that a deal can be reached. For Everton, signing Nathan Aké would represent a major statement of intent as the club looks to move away from relegation battles and begin climbing the Premier League table once again.
