PSG Ordered To Pay Mbappe €60m In Salary Ruling

A Paris labor court has ordered Paris St Germain to pay former star forward Kylian Mbappe 60 million euros, about 52.5 million pounds, after ruling the club failed to honor parts of his contract during his final months in France.

The decision ends a high profile legal battle between PSG and the France captain, now at Real Madrid, over unpaid wages and bonuses tied to his final season at the club. While Mbappe had initially sought far more, the court found clear breaches related to salary and contractual payments, according to details reported by Reuters and other outlets.

Mbappe had filed a claim worth 263 million euros, arguing that PSG owed him unpaid wages and damages linked to a broader dispute over his treatment and contract status. PSG responded with a countersuit of 240 million euros, citing financial losses connected to a failed transfer to Saudi club Al Hilal in 2023.

In its ruling, the court rejected most of Mbappe’s broader claims but agreed that PSG failed to pay three months of salary between April and June 2024. Judges also ruled that the club owed him an ethics bonus and a signing bonus specified in his contract.

Mbappe’s lawyer Frederique Cassereau welcomed the decision, saying it reflected a straightforward application of employment law. “We are satisfied with this ruling. This is what you could expect when salaries went unpaid,” she said.

In a follow up statement, Mbappe’s legal team said the judgment reinforced basic principles that apply even at the top level of professional football. “This judgement confirms that commitments entered into must be honoured,” the statement said. “It restores a simple truth: even in the professional football industry, labour law applies to everyone.”

The lawyers also stressed Mbappe’s conduct during his seven year spell at PSG, saying he “scrupulously respected his sporting and contractual obligations right up to the final day.”

PSG acknowledged the ruling and said it would comply with the order while considering its legal options. In a club statement, PSG said it reserved the right to appeal the decision.

“Paris St Germain takes note of the judgement pronounced by the Paris Labour Court, which it will execute,” the statement said. “The club has always acted in good faith and with integrity and wishes the player the best for the rest of his career.”

The club had argued that Mbappe’s decision not to extend his contract caused financial harm, particularly after a proposed 300 million euro move to Al Hilal collapsed. Mbappe instead joined Real Madrid on a free transfer the following summer.
