The 2 Division Nigerian Army has welcomed Major General Valentine Okoro as its 44th General Officer Commanding (GOC), as he assumes the command.
The GOC extended his appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Maj. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, for considering him capable of leading one of the Nigerian Army’s oldest Divisions. He assured that he would dedicate his efforts to fulfil the responsibility entrusted to him.
While expressing admiration for his predecessor’s accomplishments, Maj. Gen. Okoro pledged to enhance the Division’s performance and achievements. He called for the support and collaboration of stakeholders and other security agencies to fulfil the COAS mandate of ensuring the safety and security of law-abiding citizens within the Division’s operational area.
Maj. Gen. Okoro motivated the troops to prepare themselves for ceaseless engagements against criminals in the regions under their jurisdiction. He conveyed his belief in their competence to eradicate armed violence and criminal activities, thereby securing the South-West from such threats.

In his parting remarks to the troops, Maj. Gen. Mohammed Usman expressed heartfelt appreciation for their unwavering support throughout his tenure as the General Officer Commanding the 2 Division. He requested that they continue to offer the same level of support to his successor, emphasising their shared bond as coursemates and friends.
Maj. Gen. Mohammed Usman reminded the troops of their responsibility to provide a conducive environment for law-abiding citizens to conduct their businesses smoothly. He assured them that the new GOC would continue to uphold and build upon the legacies he had established.
In his remarks, Maj. Gen. Mohammed Usman extended his appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff for his continued belief in him and for providing him with the opportunity to lead the 81 Division.
Noteworthy moments during the ceremony include the official signing of handing and taking over notes, the ceremonial handing over of the command flag to the new GOC, the meaningful decoration with the 2 Division badge, the symbolic lowering and hoisting of command flags, and the commemorative group photographs taken to mark the occasion.
