Gitega, a small central city, has been declared Burundi’s new political capital on Saturday. This is in line with a presidential vow made a decade ago.
It is being stated and clarified that Bujumbura the former capital on the north-eastern shore of lake Tanganyika, would in future function solely as the country’s economic centre.
This absoluteness was made known in a tweet posted by Jean-Claude Karerwa Ndenzako, spokesman for President Pierre Nkurunziza.
