The Peoples Democratic party on this day, December 30 has raised an alarm over what the party considers an act of oppression being meted to Senator Dino Melaye, a serving lawmaker, by the Nigerian Police Force. The party alleges that President Mohammadu Buhari is using the police to unjustly witch hunt Senator Melaye for decamping from the All Progressives Congress to Peoples Democratic Party, an opposition to the president.

The statement which was signed by the party’s director of media, and publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan says,”The continued siege, which has been widely condemned as unwarranted and provocative, shows that the police under President Buhari, has become an instrument of oppression to subjugate dissenting voices ahead of the 2019 general election.”

“The continued siege, which has been widely condemned as unwarranted and provocative, shows that the police under President Buhari, has become an instrument of oppression to subjugate dissenting voices ahead of the 2019 general election.”

It further expresses the worry of the party over Senator Melaye’s safety,”The PDP has become extremely worried about the safety of Senator Melaye and his family members under police lock down and charges Nigerians to hold President Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) responsible should any harm befall him or any member of his family.”This is particularly against the background of Senator Melaye’s outcry that the police planned to arrest and inject him with poisonous substance.”

“The PDP hopes that opposition figures such as Senator Melaye will not suddenly become victims of ‘accidental discharge’, unexplained assassinations or mysterious motor accidents as move on to the general elections.”

The party also says that the police intend to arrest Senator Melaye, and eventually induce him with harmful substances, and hopes that the senator wouldn’t be deliberately eliminated in some weird circumstances,”This is particularly against the background of Senator Melaye’s outcry that the police planned to arrest and inject him with poisonous substance.”
