Confusion As SPAR’s Signboard Collapses On Shoppers

Property worth several millions of Naira were destroyed at SPAR shopping mall along Barracks road, Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

Africa Today News gathered that over 13 vehicles were destroyed while several customers, including children and teenagers, escaped death.

The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon when a massive signboard of the shopping outlet fell and damaged 13 vehicles belonging to customers.

The incident according to the SPAR mall manager, Mrs Kemi Daniel explained that the signboard collapsed with a terrifying bang, sending thousands of customers to scamper for dear lives.

The signboard placed atop the roof of the massive mall destroyed the vehicles and blocked the exit section of the mall.

Mrs Daniel said they were still investigating what would have caused the signage to collapse, and that they have pacified the affected customers, assuring them that they will fix the 12 vehicles because one was not fatally damaged.

“We are grateful to God that nobody was killed; none of our esteemed customers was killed or injured. We are picking the bills for the overall repairs of the affected 12 vehicles.

” We have also assured the owners of the vehicles that we shall provide mobility for them throughout the period their vehicle is under repairs.

“We shall look at issues of compensations to the affected persons, but they should give us time”, she said.

One of the customers said he might sue them for lack of safety.
