Pension Arrears - Imo Pensioners Take To The Streets Once AgainImo Pensioners

Hundreds of pensioners in Imo State on Wednesday took to the streets of Owerri, the state capital, to protest their pension arrears being owed by the Imo State Government.

Africa Today News, New York reports that the Imo retirees took to the streets in Owerri the state capital, carrying placards bearing:

“PENSION AND GRATUITY ARE OUT STATUTORY RIGHTS AND NOT A PRIVILEGE OR BENEVOLENCE FROM THE GOVERNMENT. PERIOD!”

UZODINMA PLEASE JUSTIFY FATHER MABAKA’S PROPHECY ON YOUR HEAD.

GIVE IMOLITES HOPE AND NOT HOPELESSNESS! PAY SENIOR CITIZENS/ PENSIONERS. IT IS NOT A FAVOUR BUT THEIR RIGHT.

They also sang indigenous protest songs begging the Imo state Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma to release their pension funds to them.

The protest is one of many which has been going on in the state capital for some time since the lockdown’s were lifted.

The previous protest which took place on Tuesday saw the pensioners laying siege to the State’s government house pleading with the Governor to come out and address them on the issue of their pension arrears.
