FAAN Suspends Airport Officials For Extorting Passenger

Hundreds of Federal Airport Authority of Nigerian, FAAN, staff have commenced protest against government’s moves to convert their pension to contributory scheme as well as the planned concessions of the nation’s airports.

FAAN staff at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, who started the peaceful protest, urged the Federal Government to quickly reverse its decisions.

The staff who moves around the airport holding placards, with different inscriptions were also overheard singing solidarity songs against the plans.

The Chairman, Airport Transport Service, Senior Staff Association of Nigeria in Kano, Muhammad Alkali, opined that the procession was organized to reject in totality the planned conversion of their staff to contributory pensions.

According to him, they are always available to sit with the government to discuss better ways of concessions.

Africa Today News, New York reports that the Federal Government had commenced the concession process for four new International Airport Terminals selected across the country. They are airports in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt (PH) and one other.
