Muslim Cleric, Sheikh Ahmed Lemu Dies At 91Sheikh Ahmed Lemu

Islamic Scholar and the first Grand Khadi of Niger State Sheikh Ahmed Lemu is dead, report says. Sheikh Lemu who died in Minna Thursday is aged 91 years.

One of his children, Nurudeen Lemu in a statement confirmed the demise of the scholar and educationist.
According to the junior Lemu in a sketchy detail said arrangements had commenced for the burial of the deceased.

The deceased authored so many books and received the King Faisal Bin Abdul Aziz award for the promotion of peaceful coexistence among people of different faith. He served the country in many capacities.

President Muhammadu Buhari while reacting to the demise of Lemu, described the late Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmed Lemu as ‘an outstanding scholar, jurist, teacher and author who was endowed with knowledge of encyclopedic proportion.’

The President speaking on Thursday said that ‘with the death of Lemu, Nigeria and indeed Africa, has lost one of its greatest scholars of all time.’

Buhari described the late Lemu as ‘one of the moderating voices of Islam who used wisdom in spreading knowledge, thereby portraying the religion in the brightest light.’

According to the President, ‘the late Lemu’s contributions to religious education and the promotion of inter-faith dialogue and understanding were immeasurable.’
