We’re Avoiding War With Russia – NATO Replies Ukraine

NATO nations have agreed that they will not establish a no-fly zone in Ukraine maintaining that the decision was to avoid a direct militarily confrontation with Russia.

This decision was coming despite the repeated appeal by President Volodymyr Zelensky for one.

There will be ‘no deployment of air or ground capabilities in Ukraine and that is the united position of our allies,’ said NATO Chief, Jens Stoltenberg, according to CNN.

Stoltenburg spoke on Wednesday at a news conference in Brussels, after Ministers discussed the issue at a meeting of foreign ministers on Tuesday.

The Secretary-General said that the alliance was adamant not to escalate the war with Russia.

‘We see destruction, we see human suffering in Ukraine but this can become even worse if NATO took actions that actually turned this into full-fledged war between NATO and Russia,’ he said.

US President, Joe Biden is set to travel to Europe next week to participate in a NATO summit on March 24 and will also join a European Council meeting, White House Press Secretary, Jen Psaki said on Tuesday.

Africa Today News, New York had reported that President Zelensky had called for a humanitarian no-fly zone to stop Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities and towns.

Zelensky made the call while addressing U.S. Congress on Wednesday via webinar from Ukraine amid the Russian attack on Ukraine on multiple fronts.

He pointed out that when he sees the war in Ukraine he remembers Sept. 11, adding that the war declared on Ukraine is a terror that Europe has not seen in 80 years.

Zelensky also appealed for aircraft and anti-aircraft weapons from the U.S., saying ‘right now the destiny of our country is being decided’.

‘US should sanction all Russian politicians and all companies must leave Russian markets flooded with our blood,’ he urged.

He stressed that for the US to be the leader of the world was also to be the leader of peace.
