Get Power, Before Zoning It, Tambuwal Advises PDP
Aminu Waziri Tambuwal
Sokoto State Governor and Presidential hopeful, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has called on the on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to strategise and work towards winning the elections rather than making zoning its major issue like some people are currently doing.
Tambuwal made this assertion when he held a closed door meeting with the caucus of former House of Representatives’ principal officers in Abuja.
While not completely calling for rejection of zoning, he urged the party faithful to channel their efforts towards clinching the position of President of the country in the forthcoming election in 2023.
According to him, once that happens, the party can subsequently, go on to decide on how to allocate important positions to deserving members in the party based on certain considerations.
Referring to the calls for zoning of the Presidential nomination to a section of the country by some members of the party, Tambuwal reminded the PDP of how All Progressives Congress (APC), in 2015, ignored zoning and decided on retaining the presidential slot in Katsina State, from where late President Yar’adua hailed.
‘You can share tickets because you can tear it up, but you must plan to win. PDP must accept this reality. The ticket must be balanced, as zoning or any Muslim-Muslim ticket or Christian-Christian ticket would be dead on arrival and is a recipe for disaster,’ he said.
He further appealed, while also ensuring that he doesn’t allow lopsidedness in the allocation of all offices if he is considered for nomination to run for the position of president by the party.
Africa Today News, New York reports that the PDP has already fixed it’s Presidential primary elections for March 28 and 29 of May 2022 ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Presently candidates such as Atiku Abubakar, Governor Bala Muhammed, Ayim Pius Ayim and Governor Aminu Tambuwal have already declared their interests in the race.
