Kwankwaso Visits Shekarau To ‘Finalise’ NNPP Defection
Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Senator Ibrahim Shekarau

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso on Sunday visited the Kano residence of Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, to reportedly finalise the agreement of Shekarau’s defection to the new but fast growing New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) ahead of next year’s general elections.

Africa Today News, New York gathered that Shekarau was originally billed to officially announce his defection from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday but the plan was shelved for an undisclosed reason.

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje had paid Shekarau a visit on Friday night reportedly to forestall the defection after which both of them were summoned to Abuja, but Shekarau shunned the meeting after he reportedly gathered that it was not the presidency that called the peace parley.

But on Sunday, Kwankwaso, also a former governor of the state, arrived at the Mudunbawa Kano home of Shekarau, alongside other bigwigs of NNPP to conclude on the defection plan said to be scheduled for official announcement on Monday.

Sources in Shekarau’s camp told Daily Trust that the defection is almost a done deal as all the associates of the former governor in all the 44 local governments have agreed to move to the NNPP.

Meanwhile, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) have disclosed that at least three aspirants have indicated their intentions to vie for its ticket to contest for the nation’s presidency in the 2023 general elections.

NNPP pioneer National Chairman and founder, Dr Boniface Aniebonam made this disclosure in an interview on Sunday in Lagos.

Aniebonam, who observed that the future of the party was bright with top politicians coming into the fold, singled out former Kano governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso as one of the big wigs that had attracted a mass of goodwill for the political group.

According to him, the popularity of NNPP has continued to spread in the north and the south as it moves to provide a strong leadership that will create a new Nigeria in 2023.
