NRC Suspends Resumption Of Abuja-Kaduna Train Service

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced the suspended the resumption of train services on the Abuja-Kaduna route after recent developments. 

Africa Today News, New York recalls that the NRC had stopped operations on the route, following an attack on a train by bandits in March.

Recall that eight passengers died during the attack, while many were kidnapped.

The train service was scheduled to resume on Monday, May 23, 2022, but in a statement on Friday, Yakubu Mahmood, the spokesperson of NRC, said a new date would be announced soon.

‘Sequel to our earlier Press Release No. 10 dated 16th May 2022 on the above caption, the General Public is kindly invited to note the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) is announcing a shift in the resumption date for Abuja Kaduna,’ the statement reads.

Mahmood also assured the distraught families that it was working hard to secure the victims’ release.

Meanwhile, controversial Kaduna-based Islamic Scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has called on the federal government to pay ransom to the terrorists who are currently holding the 62 abducted passengers of the Abuja-Kaduna train.

The renowned cleric made the call when he spoke during the special prayers organised for the victims by the Jama’iyyar Matan Arewa (JMA), yesterday in Kaduna.

Africa Today News, New York recalls that terrorists had on March 28 attacked the train, killing no fewer than passengers and abducting 62 others.

Gumi stated that, ‘Just imagine now, people are paying up to N25 billion to buy forms instead of using the money to pay ransom for poor Nigerians who cannot pay.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Kaduna State, Reverend Joseph Hayab, called on the leaders to do the right thing and ensure the safe return of the victims who are presently going through untold pain and hardship.
