Youths Stage Peace Walk Against Vote-Buying In Osun State

As the 2023 elections gear on, some of the youths in Osun State under the aegis of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) have showed their commitment to free and fair elections in Nigeria and they have staged a peace walk against electoral violence, and vote-buying in Osogbo.

The youths with different placards reading: “Do not shed blood in the name of election, all Nigerians are precious”; “Your future is bright, do not sell it.” among others moved from the Freedom Park, walking across the state capital to sensitize people on their right to vote.

During the exercise, Chairman of Osun NYCN, Abdulazeez Ismail, while addressing journalists noted that youths are a major part of electioneering in Nigeria adding that they should understand that the peace of the society is important.

He said it was worrisome that people are no longer interested in voting making it important to sensitize them on their franchise.

“However, we also understand that election is fast coming and youths are going to play a large role when it comes to election, starting from voting to election observation and even those that are going to work as INEC Ad-hoc staff.

In another report, it has been revealed that the Osun State government has reinstated Justice Olamide Folahanmi Oloyede, a sacked High Court Judge, to the Osun State Judiciary.

This is consequent upon its failure to appeal the judgement against it with regards to the sacked jurist.

Her ordeal started when she was petitioned by the Osun Civil Societies Coalition for her alleged failure to conduct herself in a manner preserving the dignity of her office, impartiality and independence of the judiciary.

After this, Justice Oloyede was unjustly retired by the National Judicial Council (NJC) in 2016.

The jurist had approached the court to challenge her compulsory retirement.

But a Federal High court sitting in Abuja had described her removal as illegal and called on the Osun government to reinstate her.

Justice Oloyede won her suit against the State government in June, 2021

Justice Oloyede on Tuesday, June 1, 2022, resumed at the Ijebu-Jesa division of the Osun State High Court.
