Osinbajo Clears Air On Quitting Politics After Primary Loss

Despite losing his bid to emerge as the All Progressives Congress (APC), presidential candidate, the Vice President of Nigeria Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has reiterated that he would not quit active politics when the present administration comes to an end next year.

Osinbajo pointed out that he has resolved to continue to contribute his quota in active politics which would be geared towards bringing about real change.

He made this known while speaking with ‘representatives of the Diaspora Professionals for PYO’ during a virtual meeting on Saturday.

Osinbajo said he would continue to push for a better Nigeria even after his current tenure as Vice President.

A statement by his media aide, Laolu Akande, quoted Osinbajo as saying: ‘I intend to stay very actively engaged in the politics of our country, because I believe strongly that, if God gives us that opportunity, the change will be swift and we will make a real difference.

‘We must continue to push. If we give up and say let’s see how it goes, we will be much further back than where we started from.’

Osinbajo came third behind Bola Tinubu and Rotimi Amaechi during the APC presidential primary, about two weeks ago.

The APC Special Convention was held in Abuja.

Osinbajo had earlier reiterated that he remains committed to the dream of materializing a new Nigeria and he is doing this despite the outcome of the just-concluded All Progressives Congress (APC) Special Convention where he lost to Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Osinbajo’s spokesman, Laolu Akande, in a statement on Friday in Abuja, said the vice president spoke during his visit to the campaign office of The Progressive Project (TPP), a coalition of support groups that backed him for the presidency.

The vice president also said that he would support Sen. Bola Tinubu, winner and flag bearer of the APC for the 2023 presidential election.
