Muslim-Muslim Ticket Daniel Bwala Resigns From The APC

As reactions continue to trail yesterday’s announcement by the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), a prominent member of the party, Mr. Daniel H. Bwala has resigned over the decision of Bola Tinubu to fly a Muslim-Muslim Presidential ticket for next year’s election.

Africa Today News, New York reports that Daniel Bwala is a lawyer and prominent member of the APC. He has defended the party on many television platforms and he has also served as the special adviser to the Deputy Senate President on Legal and Constitutional Matters.

His resignation comes in the midst of the backlash that has welcomed the announcement of Sen. Kassim Shettima, Former Governor of Borno State as the Vice Presidential Candidate of the ruling party.

Shettima, a Muslim by faith will be running alongside Bola Ahmed Tinubu the Presidential Flagbearer who is also a Muslim.

Their ticket has immediately attracted attacks from a cross-section of Nigerians who contend that such ticket is insensitive to the religious composition of the country.

In a post shared on his Twitter account which was sighted by Africa Today News, New York, Daniel Bwala announced his resignation from the party with immediate effect.

He wrote: ‘Tonight I officially resigned my membership of @OfficialAPCNg on principles and conviction that I hold so dear. At this time of our national existence, our efforts amd energy should gravitate towards uniting our people.’

Earlier in the day, Ibrahim Kabir Masari who had been the interim running mate to the Presidential Candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as a ‘placeholder’ announced his withdrawal from the race.

Masari who made this announcement in a press statement stated that he believes he can still serve APC and the country in several other capacities.
