Against the backdrop of the crisis brewing in Nigeria’s main opposition party, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has expressed willingness to reconcile with Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State.

Atiku revealed that he is open to a reconciliation with Wike in the interest of the party.

While addressing journalists in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, Atiku stressed that there are no factions in the PDP as such were only social media creations.

Africa Today News, New York reports that it appears that Wike is disgruntled over Atiku’s choice of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State as his running mate.

Atiku had rejected the recommendations of a committee he set up to select his running mate, following his victory at the PDP presidential primaries.

The 16-man committee had recommended Wike, who came second during the party’s primary election, but Atiku opted for Okowa.

Meanwhile, speculations about Governor Nyesom Wike’s defection to the APC are at an all-time high as three prominent Governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) last Friday stormed Port Harcourt, Rivers State to meet with Governor Nyesom Wike for a political meeting behind closed-doors.

The governors who had visited hin include Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, Dr. Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti and Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State. The three governors were accompanied in the visit by former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose.
