Lagos Lawmaker Who Attended Tinubu’s Jos Rally, Slumps, Dies

It was a sad evening for supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the lawmaker representing Mushin Constituency II at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Sobur Olayiwola Olawale was confirmed to have died after slumping. 

Africa Today News, New York reports that the lawmaker who is known as Omititi in political circles, Olawale was among the politicians, who stormed Jos, Plateau State capital, for the kick-off of the campaign of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Presidential Candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

At the time of this report, details of his death were sketchy but a source said the deceased slumped at the rally and died moments later.

Another source disclosed that he slumped at the airport and efforts made to resuscitate him failed.

Meanwhile, the assembly is yet to issue a statement on the incident.

However, an APC chieftain, who craved anonymity, told reporters that he was still with Olawale at the weekend.

‘We met at the residence of Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon (GOS) on Sunday and exchanged pleasantries. He was looking very healthy. Without preempting the circumstance, this could be high blood pressure. Whatever could have led to his death, this is so shocking and sad,’ he said.

In a statement, Hon. (Engr) Setonji David, Chairman, Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Information, Strategy and Security, described the death as a big blow.

Meanwhile, Dr. Matthew Kukah who is the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese has sent warnings to Nigerians who have pledged loyalty to certain politicians and political parties not to send themselves to their early graves while trying to demonstrate their support for such candidates.

Kukah, who spoke when he appeared on a television programme, on Tuesday pointed out that Nigerians should see politicians as friends jostling for their piece of the national cake should not be taken too seriously.
