The President of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu on Thursday signed into law the bill on uniform retirement age for judicial officers in his very first Executive assent.
The State House Director of Information, Abiodun Oladunjoye made this disclosure in a statement issued on Thursday which was obtained by Africa Today News, New York.
He said President Tinubu signed into law the ‘Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (Fifth Alteration) (No.37), 2023’ presented by the outgoing 9th National Assembly.
With the signing of the Constitutional Amendment Bill, retirement age and pension rights of judicial officers have been effectively brought into uniformity and other related matters.
This will allow High Court judges to retire at the age of 70 like Appeal Court and Supreme Court justices.
This is the first bill signed by President Tibunu since taking the oath of office on May 29.

While signing the amendment bill into law, President Tinubu pledged his administration’s dedication to strengthening the judiciary, ensuring the rule of law, and empowering judicial officers to execute their responsibilities effectively.
In another report, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has charged President Bola Tinubu to ensure a good balance in the appointment of Security Chiefs and other top political positions that will help stabilise his government.
CAN further admonished President Tinubu to take a proactive stance in ensuring that the appointments he will be making reflect the diversity of Nigeria and that the best individuals are selected for positions.
The president of CAN, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, who made this call in a press statement yesterday said Nigerians are looking forward to an administration that will address the injustices and unfairness of the past, and they hope that President Tinubu will use the opportunity of these appointments to allay the fears of Nigerians.
